Top 10 ‘80s Rock Ballads

There has long been a debate about why artist and their music has such a profound influence on the people that listen to them.

We’ve seen people completely change their lives for better or for worse because of an album that they claim enlightened them. We’ve also seen people claim a song helped them to see what was right in front of them and profess their love to a surprised girlfriend or boyfriend.

The foundational reason that music has such a vital role in shaping some people’s future may never be fully explained, but one thing that’s for sure is the message that is carried by the chords of the piano and the riffs of the guitar. It is one of, if not the most important part of the song. Rock and Roll is not well known for being a subtle genre that speaks on deep emotions, unless their rage and excitement. Yet their ballads have been some of the most influential work they have done. In this article we look at the top 10 ‘80s Rock Ballads.

Number ten is Patience by Guns N’ Roses. Like many before and after us waiting on the one you love can be difficult thankfully there’s a great song to help past the time.

Number nine is Tesla’s Love song. In a time where Rock and Roll was full of crazy hair styles and make up this simply titled song was openly welcomed.

In eighth place is Love Bites by the Def Leppard. The Def Leppard had their fair share of turmoil with their drummer losing an arm and this seemed like a needed change of pace.

Seventh place belongs to Bon Jovi’s Never Say Goodbye. With a sharp turn away from Bruce Springsteen’s notable character driven stories style of writing this song somehow stands out on an album full of hits.

In sixth is Heaven by Warrant. The song tells a story of a father’s constant battle to be someone that his children can look up to.

Number five is Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone) by Cinderella.

In fourth place is I Remember You by Skid Row.

Third place is held by Journey’s Faithfully. It hard not to of heard of this Band in the 80s with their songs constantly being played on the radio. This particular one was about life on the road with accompanying videos of tour bus scenes.

In second place is Every Rose Has Its Thorn by Poison. This was a huge song for the band and an even bigger song for their leading singer Bret Michaels, thrusting him to the fore front of the group.

Rounding out the top ten ballads of the 80s is Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue. This song can be said to be the godfather of Rock ballads and we should be grateful for its gentle nudge to a start of never ending compilation of slow motion montage videos.
